Solid Natural Ash

Among hardwoods, ash (Fraxinus) has long held a place of honour in the workshop: the timber of choice for tool handles, baseball bats and steam-bent furniture thanks to its exceptional shock resistance and elasticity. Moderately dense, it combines a high stiffness-to-weight ratio with an outstanding strength-to-weight performance and an attractive, pronounced straight grain with a coarse, open ring-porous texture. Mechanically it is markedly orthotropic, performing far better along the grain than across it, and although brittle in pure tension it is remarkably tough and bends superbly under steam, an enduring choice where structural performance and refined aesthetics must coexist. Here in its natural finish, the pale, creamy substrate and bold straight grain show at their freshest.
